This is a song I wrote about looking at the lights of the city from a distance. About a friend who had withdrawn a little, and trying to get her to come back out and enjoy her life. That city was Dublin, and the hill I had in mind was above Rathcoole, where I went to school. I used to see the glow of the city coming over the hill on the way to Dublin. We filmed a video with Absurd Visuals here in Madrid, where I'm based these days. Check it out!
Yes, you're lonely, and you know, cause you told me
You were feeling low
From your own flat, you hear the sounds
Of the Tomcats doing their rounds
But you're on your own tonight
In the night time, you feel so free
You go driving to the hills to see
From the hilltop, the city's glow
It's just a pity that you have to go
There alone, you love to see the city lights
And if they're asking what it is
You can say it's nothing they've not seen before
And if they're asking for a bit
You can say let's save it for the way back home
City nightspot all the girls
Wear their best cloths for the boys
You remember how it feels
Let's go out now, come with me tonight
Let's go see the city lights
